GUWAHATI: The Remdesivir injection crisis in Assam is likely to be over with Sun Pharma of Palasbari here is ready to provide it to the State Health Department.
Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a talk with the authorities of Sun Pharma on Saturday. The Minister visited the pharmaceutical company's setup at Palasbari in Kamrup district on Sunday.
Talking to the media after he visited Sun Pharma's setup, Sarma said, "It's indeed good news for us. Sun Pharma is manufacturing Remdesivir injection. It manufactures 80,000 Remdesivir injections weekly and 3.60 lakh monthly. The manufacturing company gets the supply of raw materials for the manufacture of the injection.
"We've requested Sun Pharma to provide us remdesivir injections, and they agreed to it. Today the company is to provide us 10,000 such injections. With this, we'll have a stock of 25,000 Remdesivir injections.
"The present scarcity of remdesivir injection will be over in the next 10-15 days. Since Sun Pharma is manufacturing the injection for all of India, it's ready to provide us with the injections.
"Private hospitals and nursing homes can procure Remdesivir from the State Health Department. However, they will have to sell it at the government rate without taking any profit."
Remdesivir injection is used to treat COVID-19 infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
