Assam youth designed G-suits for Rafale fighter jets pilot
BONGAIGAON: It's a matter of pride that Saurav Chordia, a youth from Chirang district of Assam, designed the patches that adorned the G-suits of the of Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots who flew the Rafale fighter jets.
He designed the two patches that adorned the G-suits of IAF pilots before they took off for India from France with Rafale fighter aircraft.
A G-suit, or the more accurately named anti-gravity suit, is a flight suit worn by aviators and astronauts who are subject to high levels of acceleration force (g). It is designed to prevent a black-out and g-LOC (g-induced loss of consciousness) caused by the blood pooling in the lower part of the body when under acceleration, thus depriving the brain of blood. Black-out and g-LOC have caused a number of fatal aircraft accidents. When they are pulling positive G's, the suit inflates and prevents blood from pooling in their feet and legs which would cause them to lose consciousness. NASA astronauts also wear g-suits when they experience Orthostatic Intolerance (OI). A pressure suit is a protective suit worn by high-altitude pilots who may fly at altitudes where the air pressure is too low for an unprotected person to survive, even breathing pure oxygen at positive pressure. Partial-pressure suits work by providing mechanical counter-pressure to assist breathing at altitude. (source: Wikipedia & agencies)
The 22-year-old 3D artist from Basugaon in Chirang always harboured a dream of joining the Air Force. Though his dream was not fulfilled, he feels happy today by contributing to the air warriors through his creative art. He designed the 'Golden Arrows' of the Ambala-based 17 Squadron.
"I always wanted to join Air Force since my childhood. When I was assigned to design the patches last year, I felt really happy. It was a challenging task," said Saurav.
According to reports, he works for a 3D gaming company in New Delhi.
