GUWAHATI: There is some welcome news for the people of Assam, as Google has finally decided to add the Assamese language to 'Google translate'.

Seven other Indian languages have also been added to Google translate, including Mizo and Meiteilon (Manipuri) from the Northeast.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the development and said in a tweet: "Delighted that @Google has added Assamese in its language-translation tool among the 24 new languages incorporated, 8 of which are native to India. This will promote more research on the beautiful language & popularize its use across digital platforms."
