GUWAHATI: The proxy candidate of State JEE (Mains) 'topper' Neel Nakshatra Das had appeared in the examination at the 'Ion Digital Centre' at Borjhar, and not from any other place. Nor was the computer hacked on September 5 — the day of the examination — from any other place, stated Police sources.

It has been also learnt that due to the mandatory face masks worn by the candidates, it was not possible to specifically identify the proxy candidate. However, the video footages are being examined. In this regard, the police is intensely checking the video footages of the day in the examination centre. The footages were obtained from the New Delhi-based 'National Testing Agency' (NTA) — that conducts the examination — on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Bhargav Deka — the accused mastermind and owner of the scam-tainted consultancy firm 'Global Edu Light' — has not yet said anything about his role in the scam. However, Police sources are confirmed that the ground-level job of the firm was conducted by Kakoli Buzarbaruah — the firm's counsellor — while Bhargav Deka gave instructions from New Delhi. During raids at the firm's Ambari-based office in the presence of Bhargav Deka on Tuesday evening, Azara Police seized many documents.
