GUWAHATI: The war against drugs has entered a decisive phase with the launching of 'Infoline' that enables the general public to provide drug-related information to the police online without physically going to any police station.

In the past few months, the Assam Police arrested over 600 people, leading to the registration of over 300 drug-related cases in the state. The seizure of drugs includes over seven kg of heroin, about 6,000 kg of ganja and nearly one lakh yaba and other tablets, besides the recovery of over Rs 18 lakh cash.

The State police are very much on their relentless fight against drug peddlers and drug dealers. The drive is more intense in the Kamrup (M) district, where anti-drug campaigns of diverse hues go on. Since the police cannot reach every corner of the state, they can get their job done at ease with the

proper use of 'Infoline' that keeps the identity of the information giver a secret.

Guwahati Commissioner of Police Harmeet Singh said, "We have taken this measure following an instruction from the Chief Minister. Without help from the public, it is not possible to root out the menace of drugs from the state. 'Infoline' is a bridge between the public and police. We appeal to the public to take the better use of 'Infoline' and be part of the fight against drugs."
