Bhutan Economic Affairs Minister stresses boosting economic activities

KOKRAJHAR: An eight-member Bhutanese delegation led by Minister of Economic Affairs HE Lyonpo Loknath Sharma and Consule General of Royal Bhutanese Consulate General, Guwahati, Jigme Thinlye Namgyel on Saturday visited the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) headquarters, Kokrajhar and enjoyed Bwisagu at the official residence of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro. The Bhutanese delegates were accorded a warm welcome with traditional Aronai. The team later participated in the Bwisagu celebration and also enjoyed traditional Bodo dishes.

Talking to media persons, the Minister of Bhutan Economic Affairs HE Lyonpo Loknath Sharma stated that the people of Bhutan and Bodoland region always had a close relationship and his visit was aimed to enhance the relationship. He said he would always want the people of both sides of the border to continue the good relationship and also the trade and commerce activities.

Pramod Boro expressed his happiness to host the Bhutanese delegates. He said the people of both sides of the border had happily coexisted since centuries and together they could do a lot of work. He said the two sides had shared and discussed ways to enhance the economic activities.

Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, MLA of Kokrajhar East, Lawrence Islary, Berlao K. Karjee, political advisor of Pramod Boro, and Madab Chetry, political secretary of Pramod Boro, along with other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
