Bid to loot SBI ATM; One killed in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: In a broad daylight robbery at an SBI ATM on NH-52, Rupaisiding just in front of the mosque around 2.30 pm on Wednesday, a security guard was killed in an exchange of fire when four motorbike-borne dacoits attempted to loot the ATM when two cashiers were filling it.

According the reports, while two cashiers entered the ATM to fill it with cash by pulling down the front shutter from inside, two security guards were waiting outside it along with the driver of the cash carrying SIS PROSEGUR vehicle bearing registration no. ASO1FC3301. Then all of a sudden, four dacoits appeared in two motorbikes. When two of them attempted to enter the ATM by opening the shutter, there was exchange of fire between the security guards and the other two dacoits. As a result of the firing, one dacoit and one of the two security guards were injured. The injured SBI guard succumbed to his injury on the way to 30-bed Doomdooma FRU. He has been identified as Simu Buragohain (42) of Sadiya Patipathar village.

All the four dacoits fled the spot by taking the injured one in their motorbikes. Of the two security guards, only Simu Buragohain was equipped with an SBBL gun and the other one was without any arms.
