GUWAHATI: The Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) (BIEO) has arrested four persons accused of having duped investors of over Rs 1.4 crore via a bogus company named Response Real Estate & Construction (P) Ltd.
Briefing the media here on Tuesday, BIEO's Superintendent of Police Rupkishore Handique identified those arrested as Bikash Borgohain of Nazira, Rinkumoni Borah of Gaurisagar, Rajani Gogoi and Dibakar Bora, both of Nemuguri. Handique said that efforts are on to arrest co-accused Jyoti Gogoi, Chandan Bora and others. All the four are from the Sivasagar district.
According to the BIEO SP, the accused persons had opened branches of their bogus investment company in various districts of the State between 2009 and 2014, without having any authorization from the RBI and SEBI. They mainly took money from gullible investors on the pretext of providing land for housing purposes.
A case (19/2020 u/s 120(B)/420/406 IPC r/w Section 4/5/6 of PC & MCS (B) Act, 1978 and r/w Section 5 of APID Act, 2013) was subsequently registered by the BIEO on November 3, 2020.
