GUWAHATI: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bhabesh Kalita confirmed on Tuesday that the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) was in talks with the BJP but yet to reach any understanding.

Talking to The Sentinel, Bhabesh Kalita said, "The BJP is in alliance with the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) – both at Dispur and in the BTC. The BPF had unofficial talks with us regarding an understanding. However, there is no conclusive decision on our part as yet."

On Monday, BPF MLA Durga Das Boro said that BPF president Hagrama Mohilary had talks with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding a secret ballot in the BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) for the party to prove its majority on the floors of the Council. He also said that the two parties would work cordially to develop the State and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

In the last Assembly and BTC polls, the BJP had an alliance with the UPPL in the BTR.

Meanwhile, the State BJP president said that All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Phanidhar Talukdar would join the BJP on September 1. Phanidhar Talukdar is the MLA from Bhabanipur in Barpeta district. Kalita further said that two or three other opposition MLAs were also in touch with the BJP leadership.
