GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has alleged that the BJP (BharatiyaJanata Party) has resorted to make issues out of non-issues like Mughal civilization, Miya Museum and invasion by 'Miyas' to divert the attention of the public from genuine issues.

Saikia said that the BJP made various promises in its vision document. "Some of the important promises were – generating employment for 25 lakh unemployed, taming floods, deportation of foreigners, implementation of Assam Accord to the letter, granting ST status to six ethnic communities, hike in daily wage of tea workers to Rs 351, 24x7 power supply to every household, etc. However, after coming to power the government has totally failed to meet the promises. This had led the party to make issues out of non-issues to divert public attention from real issues," Saikia asserted.

Saikia stressed that the Congress would not let the BJP divert public attention. "We have an agenda to solve fundamental issues. We will make the public aware of our stand and policies over these issues," Saikia said, and added, "The Government needs to lay stress on the development of sar areas by boosting facilities for health, education, connectivity etc."
