GUWAHATI: The BJP on Saturday recorded a landslide victory in the Tiwa Autonomous Council's (TAC) elections.

While the BJP won 33 of the 36 Council seats, its ally — the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) — bagged two seats. Opposition Congress secured one seat. In the previous elections of the TAC, the Congress had won more than 10 seats.

The election to the TAC was held on December 17 in parts of Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup (Metropolitan) districts.

Following the announcement of the TAc poll results, BJP national president J.P. Nadda tweeted, "Thank you Assam for this massive mandate to BJP in Tiwa Autonomous Council elections. Assam is progressing towards a brighter future; and the people continue to keep their faith in the vision of PM Narendra Modiji. Congratulations to Sarbananda Sonowal, Himanta Biswa Sarma and team Assam BJP."
