LAKHIMPUR: The first patient in the AMCH (Assam Medical College & Hospital) infected with Mucormycosis (black fungus) was detected on Saturday night.

The case was diagnosed with the joint efforts of the Departments of Medicine, ENT, Microbiology and Ophthalmology of the AMCH. The patient, hailing from the Lakhimpur district and aged about 47 years, has post-COVID-19 complications.

According to AMCH Principal Dr Sanjib Kakati, the person underwent treatment under Medicine Unit-I of AMCH from June 15 for a complaint of breathing problem after he had recovered from COVID-19. The Principal stated that the patient later developed some more symptoms like headache and red eyes. Then the infection of black fungus was detected in him during the diagnosis. The patient needs treatment for 21 days, said Dr Sanjib Kakati.
