GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the newly-elected GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) ward commissioners to be ready to improve or construct the roads of Guwahati with around Rs 600 crore in the first year. He has also informed the ward commissioners that the annual revenue collection of the GMC is around Rs 115 crore against the expenditure of Rs 125 crore on its salary head.

The Chief Minister said, "The development funds will come either from the Centre or the State Government through the MPs and the MLAs. You will have to team up with MLAs and MPs for proper fund utilization.

"The Government stands by the assurance of providing Rs 10 crore to each GMC ward for roads. We will start the work from August-September this year with Rs 600 crore. Map roads for development in consultation with MLAs and MPs.

"Accord importance on drinking water projects. We have to provide drinking water in a time-bound manner. Guwahati Development Minister Ashok Singhal should take the water scarcity in Guwahati as a challenge. A taste of power should not make you lose your identity. Be grateful to people, and serve them. Never take even a rupee from any public for their works. It has come to my notice that some areas in Guwahati look like hellholes. Your priority should be to uplift such areas.

"Never boast of power. Minus the brand names – BJP and Narendra Modi – none of us can win any election. Even if I fight as an independent candidate from the Jalukbari LAC, I will bite the dust."
