GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga met to resolve the differences on the inter-state boundary between the two states in New Delhi today. The meeting took place at the initiative of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The meeting with Mr Zoramthanga was cordial. He is my old friend. We discussed various issues. I talk to him over the telephone from time to time. Tomorrow, we will try to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah together."
For the last few months, skirmishes along the Assam-Mizoram boundary were a regular phenomenon, leading to the killing of several people. An incident took place along the Kolasib-Vairengte border in July this year. The skirmishes killed six Assam Police personnel, besides injury to many.
Hailakandi SP Gaurav Upadhyay said that recently Mizoram was constructing a road near Haticherra village inside the reserve forest.
