GUWAHATI: The bridge component (over the Brahmaputra) of the NHIDCL's (National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) Project on National Highway-37 (A) from Kaliabor Tiniali Road Junction-Dolabari Road Junction (Tezpur side) will conclude by this August and the road component by October this year.
Around 98.5 per cent of the bridge and 90 per cent of the road of the project were over. The 17.300-km project, with a cost of Rs 588.95 crore, includes a 3.040-km two-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra, parallel to the existing two-lane Kaliabhomora bridge. The remaining stretch of the project is a four-lane road. The construction company expects to complete the bridge portion of the project by August and the road portion by October this year. The colouring work of the bridge is underway now.
The NHIDCL awarded the project work to M/s GAMMON SPSCPL-JV. The revised target of the project is July 31, 2022. Sources, however, said that heavy rainfall since April this year and some other problems delayed the project works.
People want early completion of the project.
Talking to The Sentinel, NHIDCL's Executive Director (Regional office, Guwahati) Pankaj Singh said, "The project from Kaliabor Tiniali to Dolabari, including a bridge over the Brahmaputra, is nearing completion."
