GUWAHATI: A resident of the Kamakhya Gate area here — Tarun Dutta— filed an FIR at the Panbazar Police Station in the city against Minister of State for Health Piyush Hazarika on the charge of the Minister holding an election rally under Tamulpur Police Station on Friday.

Panbazar Police sources said that since the rally was held in Tamulpur, it would send the FIR to Tamulpur Police Station for investigation.

The FIR filed by Dutta says that the Minister held an election rally defying the COVID-19 protocols. The rally addressed by Minister Hazarika, according to the FIR, was largely attended.

Reacting to the FIR, the Minister said, "All other parties also hold election rallies in the BTAD, so do we. If it is violation of COVID protocols, I'm ready to tender an apology. However, all other parties should also stop holding such rallies in the BTAD."
