GUWAHATI: Allaying all fears, senior surgeon Padmashree Dr. Ilias Ali has said that the Muslims can take COVID-19 vaccines even when they are in Ramadan fasting.
The senior surgeon appealed to all Muslims to go for COVID-19 vaccination even if they are fasting for Ramadan.
Talking to The Sentinel, Dr. Ali said, "I've talked to maulanas on this issue. They informed me that there's no bar to taking vaccines during Ramadan fasting. To get free from the pandemic and to save lives no one should avoid the COVID-19 vaccine, irrespective of fasting.
"From the medical point of view, there's no contradiction of taking vaccine during fasting."
On the new COVID-19 wave, Dr. Ali said, "It's a double mutation variant which is more dangerous than the earlier one. This variant is affecting both older people and the younger ones as well.
"All should remain alert and practice COVID-appropriate behaviour like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing, besides following hand hygiene."
