DIBRUGARH: Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata today said that a network of 17 cancer care centres in Assam would make treatment accessible to all as it is not a 'rich man's disease.

Speaking after the inauguration of the cancer care centre in Dibrugarh, Ratan Tata said, "Today is an important day in the history of Assam. Higher-level healthcare facility for cancer treatment which was earlier not available in the state is being brought here. Cancer is not a rich man disease".

"Assam can now say that even a small state of India has been equipped with world-class cancer treatment facilities," 84-year-old Ratan Tata said.

Ratan Tata made a rare speech saying that he dedicates his "past years to health". "I dedicate my past years to health. Make Assam a state that recognizes and is recognised by all," he said.

"None of this has been taken place if this would not have been possible by the efforts of our Prime Minister and the Chief Minister," he said.

The foundation for the projects was laid in June 2018 while a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the State government during the 'Advantage Assam' Global Investment Summit that year, giving shape to it.
