GUWAHATI: In view of persisting doubts about the role of certain erstwhile officials of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in the Combined Competitive Examinations (CCE) of 2013 and 2014, the Assam Police has started a fresh initiative to get a clearer picture of the jobs-for-cash scam.

As a part of the move, a senior investigating office issued a notice to the then Principal Controller of Examinations of the APSC, Nandu Babu Singh, asking the latter to appear for fresh inquiry in connection with the case registered in 2016 by the Dibrugarh police.

Sources said that the notice in question has directed Nanda Babu Singh to appear before the police officer concerned on or before January 28 next.

Nandu Babu Singh was the APSC's Principal Controller of Examinations during the period when the controversial CCEs of 2013 and 2014 were conducted – i.e., from March, 2013 to July, 2015.

It is pertinent to mention that the one-man judicial inquiry commission comprising Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma has already completed an inquiry into the CCE 2013 and submitted the relevant report to the state government. The judicial inquiry into CCE 2014 is currently underway. The judicial probe panel had also issued a notice to Nandu Babu Singh recently, seeking certain clarifications from the former Principal Controller of Examinations of the APSC.

The renewed doubts of the police have emerged against this backdrop, leading to summoning of Nandu Babu Singh for further clarifications.

Several Assam Civil Service (ACS) and Allied Services officers had been arrested by the Dibrugarh police in connection with CCE 2013 and 2014. Later, all the arrested officers were dismissed from service by the state government.
