GUWAHATI: The Central Government has approved nine national highway projects spanning 56 km in the Northeast, including 20 km in Assam. The estimated cost of the nine projects is Rs 258 crore, including Rs 59.21 crore for the five projects in Assam.
According to the Guwahati Regional Office of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the five national highway projects in Assam are for (i) providing slope protection to a 0.047-km stretch of an embankment of the existing NH-515 with geo-bags for protection against perennial submergence by Jalakiasuti Channel near Dimow in the Dhemaji district costing Rs 4.24 crore, (ii) strengthening a seven-km stretch of the existing NH-129 (New)/NH-39 (Old) from Phulbari to Gautam Basti with an RCC drain near Khatkhati costing Rs 16.46 crore, (iii) widening a four-km missing link of the intermediate lane of NH-44 to NH-151 costing Rs 25.95 crore, (iv) repair and rehabilitation of a ROB on NH-37 (New)/NH-53 (Old) in the Silchar-Jiribam Section costing Rs 0.99 crore, and (v) strengthening of a 9.09-km stretch on NH-31 costing Rs 11.57 crore.
The other four projects are a 19.50-km stretch on NH-115 in Arunachal Pradesh costing Rs 71.09 crore, a project on NH-217 in Meghalaya costing Rs 9.23 crore, a 16-km project on NH-154 in Mizoram costing Rs 86.81 crore and a project on NH-310 in Sikkim costing Rs 31.68 crore.
All nine projects are at the bidding stage.
