GUWAHATI: The Centre has released Rs 308.80 crore as the second instalment of SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) to Assam for fiscal 2021-22. At the same time, the Centre has also released around Rs 51 crore as NDRF (National Disaster Response Fund) for the state.

While the NDRF is 100 per cent central allocation, the SDRF comprises 90 per cent central and 10 per cent state shares. With the release of the second instalment, Dispur has around Rs 1,200 crore under its SDRF. And Rs 700 crore of this is committed liabilities.

The State government meets all expenditures during disasters like floods, storms, lightning etc., from its SDRF and NDRF. The government uses such funds for paying GR (gratuity relief), protection measures during calamities, repair of breached roads, bridges and embankments. The government pays compensation to the next of kin in case of loss of life etc., from the SDRF.

In Assam, the Water Resources department gets the lion's share of SDRF as the flood is perennial havoc here.
