GUWAHATI: The Centre has sanctioned another two-lane bridge across the Brahmaputra at Jogigopa, parallel to the existing two-lane Naranarayan Setu there.

The NHIDCL (National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) will implement the project. The length of the bridge, including its approaches, is approximately 2.30 km.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari tweeted, "The construction work of a new two-lane bridge with its approaches over the Brahmaputra on the National Highway-17 got sanctioned with a budget of Rs 746.76 crore in the State of Assam."

Talking to The Sentinel, NHIDCL's Executive Director, Regional Office, Guwahati, Pankaj Singh, said, "Since the Union Ministry has sanctioned the bridge, the NHIDCL Headquarters will allot works of the project following all formalities. The bridge will further streamline the traffic management in lower Assam."
