GUWAHATI, Jan 15: A full team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) comprising Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar will undertake a three-day-long tour to

Assam from Monday (January 18) to take stock of the State's preparedness for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

During the visit the ECI team, besides discussing the issue of poll preparedness will also take stock of law-and-order situation in the State. The Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners will hold meetings with the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam Nitin Khade, State Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, senior Assam Police officials, DCs, SPs, and representatives of various political parties. The ECI full team will return to New Delhi on January 20.

It may be mentioned here that a team of senior officials of the ECI recently arrived in Dibrugarh district to discuss the Assembly poll preparedness of Assam. The team comprised Director General Dharmendra Sharma, Senior Principal Secretary Narendra N. Butolia, Director (Expenditure) Pankaj Srivastava, Director (IT) Ashok Kumar, Director (Law) Vijay Pandey and Consultant (EVM) Vipin Katara.

The team held a meeting with the District Election Officers (DEOs) of 50 Election Districts and SPs.

On the other hand, the final photo electoral roll 2021 for Assam will be published on January 18. Even though the electoral roll was supposed to be published on Friday (January 15), the date was deferred due to the Magh Bihu holidays. The ECI had earlier approved the plea of the State Election department to defer the date.
