GUWAHATI: The Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court has constituted a five-judge committee to take a decision on resumption of physical Courts. The committee will have interactions with the stakeholders on August 17.
Informing this, the secretary of 'The Bar Council of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, Kulesh Goswami, said that the Registrar General of Gauhati High Court (Principal Seat) intimated the Council's chairman HRA Choudhury of this move, here on Thursday.
Earlier during the day, the All Assam Lawyers' Association (AALA) — under the aegis of the Council — staged a hour-long token protest from 11.30 am to 12:30 pm across the State. They demanded resumption of physical Courts, regular functioning in all subordinate Courts and reopening of the Advocate Association office and bar libraries which were closed following the COVID-19 pandemic.
