LAKHIMPUR: Finally, after a long period, a dream of the people of the Lakhimpur district came true with the inauguration of the Sri Sri Madhavdev Kalakshetra at Narayanpur on Wednesday.

The much-expected memorabilia of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhavdev, the luminous icon of spirituality who was the chief disciple of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma amid a huge gathering in connection with the completion of the two years of his government.

While addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the Sri Sri Madhavdev Kalakshetra would be one of the most prominent spiritual centres of the nation with the common endeavour of the government and the public.

“I feel glorified and blessed by having the opportunity to be with you on the sacred land of Narayanpur at the completion of the two years of our government and the beginning of the third year. Narayanpur is a sacred place in Assam. It is one of those places that comes to mind when we think about places that are enriched with spiritual ideology and enhanced culture,” the Chief Minister said while throwing light on the origin of the name Narayanpur and its historical heritage.

Referring to the union of Sri Sri Madhavdev and Sri Sri Sankardev, the Chief Minister said that the event has changed the history of Assam. “In a critical juncture, Srimanta Sankardev was born in the state and preached the Vaishnavite philosophy for the transformation of society. A galaxy of prominent Mahapurushs had helped Srimanta Sankardev strengthen the foundation of the Bhakti Movement, which was spearheaded by him in the state. Sri Sri Madhavdev emerged as the most powerful driving force of Sankardev’s Bhakti Movement in the form of an iconic preacher of spirituality. The intellectual and cultural contributions of Madhavdev, which he rendered in order to showcase the philosophy preached by Lord Shri Krishna in the Bhakti Movement, have now turned out to be invaluable resources of the state,” the Chief Minister asserted while appreciating the Dasya Bhakti of Madhavdev and his masterpiece Nam-Ghosha.

Regarding the set-up of the Madhavdev Kalakshetra, the Chief Minister said that the delay in the progress of the construction of the project, as it was planned, had hit his heart.

“So, in 2019, we had a detailed discussion with the prominent citizens of Narayanpur in order to propel the construction work of the project. As part of the initiative, the foundation stone of the new project was laid in April 2021. At present, the construction of the museum, guest house, auditorium with 700 seat capacity, Dakshin Hati Bhakat Griha, Namghar, Aata Griha, Pachim Hati museum, beautified ponds, parking place, security system with CCTV, children’s park, Pandulipi Bhavan, dining hall, opera theatre, Manikut, residence of Xatradhikar, etc., has been completed with the investment of a fund of Rs. 53.26 crore,” the Chief Minister said. He added that a light and sound show, a musical fountain, and an artists’ village would be constructed by the next Tirobhav Tithi of Madhavdev.

Further, the Chief Minister paid rich tribute to Sri Kanta Goswami, the late Xatradhikar of the Badala Padma Aata Xatra, who donated land for setting up the Madhavdev Kalakshetra.
