 Defamation case filed by CM Sarma

GUWAHATI: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kamrup today issued a summons to Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to appear before the court on September 29 in connection with a criminal defamation case filed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had filed a criminal defamation case at the CMJ's court, Kamrup against Manish Sisodia over the latter's comments in connection with the procurement of PPE kits during the initial phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sisodia had alleged before the media that when Sarma was the Health & Family Welfare Minister, the department had placed an order with a company owned by the latter's wife for the supply of PPE kits at a rate which was higher than that of other suppliers. Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, has already filed a Rs 100-crore defamation case against Sisodia and also clarified that her company had donated the PPE kits to the Health & Family Welfare Department under its CSR activity.

Chief Minister Sarma recorded his submission regarding the case on August 5.
