Clearing illegal encroachment from government land: Minister Jogen Mohan

GUWAHATI: This year, the priority focus of the State Revenue and Disaster Management Department will be on making government land encroachment-free in a phased manner and in disposing off all the land-related cases under Mission Basundhara on or before May 10, 2022.

Talking to The Sentinel, State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan said that for many years, government land in many places has been under encroachment. "During the tenure of the previous government land, some government land had been made free from encroachment. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stressed evicting encroachers from government land. Soon, we will start the eviction work in a phased manner," he said. The minister also appealed to people who have illegally encroached upon government land to leave before an eviction drive is carried out.

Mohan said that eligible landless indigenous people should apply for land pattas. "Giving land pattas to indigenous landless people is in our government's priority list," he added.

Speaking about Mission Basundhara, the minister said that this scheme to resolve land-related issues is the dream project of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. "We have received around 8 lakh applications under Mission Basundhara out of which 1 lakh cases have already been disposed off. The remaining cases will be disposed off on or before May 10, 2022," he said.

The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government will be completing one year on May 10, 2022. Instructions have been issued to Deputy Commissioners and Circle Officers to ensure speedy disposal of all cases under Mission Basundhara, said the minister.
