GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reminded the deputy commissioners and the superintendents of police that administrative efficiency is the key to ensuring the delivery of public services and work towards that end.
The Chief Minister briefed DCs and SPs today to deliberate on effective governance, law and order and implementation of various welfare schemes.
He said, "We discussed mainly four points with the DCs – the event planned for the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Lachit Barphukan, deliberate on Mission Basundhara 2.0, Mission Bhumiputra and timely land acquirement for the construction of national highways."
The Chief Minister said, "I told the DCs to speed up the registration process while selling and buying lands to rid people rid of unnecessary harassment."
According to sources, the Chief Minister also asked the DCs to be strict in their offices and other district offices to do away with corrupt practices.
The Chief Minister said that many national highway projects get delayed due to the non-acquisition of lands. "This leads to cost and time overruns, besides making the public suffer," he said. He also asked the DCs to ensure land compensation to the genuine landowners without leaving any room for brokers to play mischief.
DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the meeting reviewed the activities of the recent past, besides making future plans with the SPs.
A police official said that the meeting discussed the threat from radical elements, besides drugs, supari smuggling, cattle smuggling etc., and the war against corruption.
