DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed cheques to provide relief to microfinance borrowers at a function at Chowkidinghi playground today. He distributed Rs 25,000 each to 5,097 microfinance borrowers as an incentive who are making regular payments to the banks under Assam Micro-finance Incentives and Relief Scheme, 2021 (AMFIRS).

The Chief Minister expressed his hopes that the AMFIRS would usher in an economic revolution in the state. "It is an economic step of the State government towards the welfare of women," he said.

The Chief Minister appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of the financial benefits. He also urged the micro-finance establishments to generate awareness among the loanees to help them make good use of the loans. He also said that those beneficiaries who are unable to pay back their loans should apply through a portal for remittance as the State government would open a portal in the coming month.

He also said that taking a loan is a process. The educated unemployed who do not get government jobs try to make themselves self-reliant by starting a business with the help of bank loans. He said that the entire process runs smoothly if the loanees repay their loan amounts which will also help in initiating an economic revolution in the state. He also said that under the scheme, beneficiaries will be given cheques in the Upper Assam districts, including Tinsukia in the next month.

Earlier, the Chief Minister launched an online piped natural gas registration portal of Assam Gas Company Limited at Duliajan. With this portal, people can apply for a new gas connection and can lodge their complaints. He also took stock of the functioning of AGCL and its various ongoing projects with the senior officers of the company. Union Minister of State for Oil and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli and others were present during the meeting, an official statement said.

The Chief Minister also took stock of the ongoing works of the guest house of the Water Resources Department at Dibrugarh. Eighty per cent work of the guest house is complete. He directed the authority concerned to expeditiously complete the remaining work within a stipulated time.

He also visited the construction site of Assam Cancer Care Foundation Hospital at the AMCH. He asked the authority to introduce paying cabin in the 182-bedded hospital.

The Chief Minister also inspected the under-construction site of flyover at the junction point of Convoy Road with NH-37 leading to Amolapatty bus terminus, Dibrugarh, the statement added.
