GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani and Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi on Friday. He also invited the President of India to visit Assam and see Kaziranga National Park (KNP).
After meeting the President of India, the Chief Minister said in his Twitter handle, "I'm extremely proud to have received the President's blessings and guidance. I extended an invitation to him to kindly grace us with his visit to Assam and see Kaziranga."
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed women and child development issues and the textile sector with Smriti Zubin Irani. During the meeting, the Chief Minister flagged key issues predominantly associated with women and child development. Talking on the Nirbhaya fund, Sarma said that his government is exploring different projects like the emergency support response system and others for bringing women under the safety net. Sarma also informed the Union Minister about various initiatives that the State government has taken to curb human trafficking.
He also informed Irani about the steps that his government has taken under Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) to give nutritious food under an integrated child development scheme to children from six months to six years, pregnant and lactating mothers.
Sarma also requested the Union Minister for adequate and timely release of Central share under the SNP to Assam as per the beneficiary number to cover 300 days.
Irani also requested the State government to furnish the details of Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers to enable the government to cover them under the Government of India's insurance scheme.
The Chief Minister also discussed the coal and mine sector of Assam with Union Coal Minister Joshi.
