GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched several projects for the historic Batadrava Thaan in the Nagaon district. The projects would cost a total of Rs 22 crore.

Addressing a public meeting in Nagaon, the Chief Minister said that the projects launched today – ranging from the development of the auditorium, Xattriya Sara, office complex to "Damodar Ata Tourist Guest House" - would see the light of the day within the next 18 months.

He further said that developmental works on the theatre house and the main monastery were complete. The government will also start the third phase of development works related to Akashiganga and nearby areas soon, he added.

"On the third anniversary of the current government, various projects (related to Batadrava Thaan) costing a total of nearly Rs 200 crore will be inaugurated," the Chief Minister stated, adding "Developmental activities for the workplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev – Patbaushi – will be taken up within this year."

The Chief Minister further added: "My government is also contemplating an institution named after Aai Kanaklata. Also, we are thinking of setting up an educational institution in Batadrava."

Speaking on the government's ambitious "Religious Tourist Circuit" that would cover all places from Batadrava to Cooch Behar that were visited by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev during the great saint's lifetime, the Chief Minister said that elaborate plans were in place for construction of monasteries and shelter houses for devotees in those sites that would be covered by the project.
