STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The ULFA-I today executed two of its cadres on the charge of spying against the outfit. Against this backdrop, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appealed to the ULFA-I to come forward for peace talks to end such incidents.

The two executed ULFA-I cadres were Dhanjit Das alias Rupak Asom, hailing from the Barpeta district, and Sanjib Sarma alias Risav Asom, hailing from the Kamrup district.

The ULFA-I sent videos of (confessional statements) of Dhanjit and Sanjib to the media in the recent past. The outfit said that the two cadres had tried to harm the ULFA-I at the diktat of the 'enemies. And that led it to decide on the execution of the duo.

Meanwhile, talking to the media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "It is unfortunate if the report of the execution of two cadres by the outfit is true. Many mothers lost their sons, and the state lost its youths. We have heard in the news that many youths have joined the ULFA-I in the recent past. Nobody knows what is in store for them. I request the ULFA-I again to come forward for peace talks to end such incidents. The people of Assam want peace, progress and development." The Chief Minister further said, "The Assam Police never sends any spy. Its jurisdiction is from Sadia to Dhubri, not beyond."
