GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sought Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari's help and assistance in expediting key infrastructure projects in Assam. Sarma met Gadkari at his official residence in the national capital on Monday.

The Chief Minister sought help to expedite important infrastructure projects like the underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh; Guwahati Ring Road; Kaziranga Elevated Corridor and four-laning of various national highway stretches in the State. Gadkari assured that his ministry would extend all possible help and assistance in expediting the key infrastructure projects.

Chief Minister Sarma tweeted, "Meeting Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @nitin_gadkari ji is always enriching, so much to learn. I sought his assistance in expediting the key infra projects in Assam - underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh; Guwahati Ring Road; Kaziranga Elevated Corridor and 4 laning of various NH stretches in the State."

Animals in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) face a lot of problems during floods every year. When most areas get submerged in water, the animals usually cross the national highway and move towards higher ground in the Karbi Anglong Hills for shelter. While crossing the national highway, animals often get hit by speeding vehicles. To avoid animal deaths, the Assam Government has planned to build an elevated corridor on the national highway so that animals can move safely towards the Karbi Anglong hills.

Sources said that the elevated corridor in KNPTR was thoroughly discussed during the meeting between Chief Minister Sarma and Union Minister Gadkari.

Chief Minister Sarma also met Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), G Kishan Reddy on Monday. The DoNER Minister reviewed the progress of important schemes, including PM-DEVINE and NE-Special Infra Development Scheme, being implemented in Assam during the meeting.

In a Twitter post, the Union Minister said, "We held deliberations on various matters pertaining to the implementation of schemes and developmental works underway in the state."

Chief Minister Sarma also tweeted, "Delighted to have had a productive meeting with the Union Minister Kishan Reddy ji. We reviewed the impressive progress of critical schemes under DoNER Ministry in Assam, including PM-DEVINE and NE-Special Infra Development Scheme."
