GUWAHATI: Commuters in the city on Tuesday faced many inconveniences after drivers of Ola,Uber and Rapido services went for an indefinite strike.

The drivers of Uber, Ola and Rapido staged protest at Sasal here, against the managements of their respective companies for allegedly taking high commission.

"After the lockdown and COVID, we are not earning much from our work. But the commission taken from the drivers against the fares they charge from passengers has been increased. Adding more to the stress of the drivers, the ride fares have been lowered even after the increasing fuel prices," said an Ola driver.

Faruk, a captain (driver) of Rapido, said, "The commission that my company take from us have been raised to 30 per cent, from Rs. 4 they used to charge from us for every trip. Even though fuel prices are ever-increasing, the ride fares have been lowered. The rides that earlier had cost Rs 50 have been lowered to Rs 25-30."

The drivers have regretted that there are no physical offices of Rapido, Uber, and Ola in Guwahati. While Uber and Ola have closed their offices here in the last part of September, Rapido has also done the same about a month ago. The non-existence of these offices has made it difficult for the associates and drivers to talk to the management directly.
