GUWAHATI: The State government will pay Rs 3,800 to each flood-affected family staying in relief camps and taking shelter on railway tracks, dykes and roads by July 5 to enable them to procure clothes, utensils etc., before going back to their houses.
The Government has asked all deputy commissioners to submit details of damaged houses with photographs before July 15.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a virtual meeting with all deputy commissioners and in-charge ministers today and asked them to complete all forms of compensation before August 15. after which the Government would not accept any pleas for compensation. "We will shift our focus on restoration of roads, bridges, embankments and other infrastructure after August 15," the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister has also asked the DCs not to miss any genuine affected family, nor do they include any unaffected one in the list of beneficiaries. "We will check your lists multiple times. Verify the lists yourself without relying on the mandals before sending them to the higher-ups," he said.
The Chief Minister said, "Meticulously categorize the damaged houses as 'fully damaged, severely damaged and partially damaged'. Categorize the damaged houses where the family members cannot live as 'severely damaged'. Lists of damaged houses should have photos accompanying them. Submit lists of damaged houses by July 15 to let us clear the compensation amounts by July 22."
The Chief Minister also asked the deputy commissioners to get the loss of livestock and damage of handlooms etc., assessed by the district task forces, and send them by August 7. "We need the lists of students staying in relief camps. We will pay them Rs 1,000 each to let them buy their damaged books," the Chief Minister said. He also asked the deputy commissioners not to wait for the post-mortem reports of those who lost their lives in floods. "You just send their names, and the government will pay their next of kin Rs 4 lakh each," he said.
The Chief Minister also said, "We stick to time stipulation as experiences have taught us that flood-affected people did not get compensation for years. We witnessed contractors resorting to short supply and submitting inflated bills with the help of mandals. Gone are those days. This government will verify every bill."
