Complete remaining works of AIIMS-Guwahati by April: Union Minister Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar

GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar asked HITES to complete the remaining works of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), Guwahati by April 15, 2022, as the second batch of the medical institution would start from March-end this year. HITES is the company constructing AIIMS-Guwahati.

The Union minister visited the AIIMS-Guwahati site at Changsari on the outskirts of Guwahati today. State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, top officials of the state Health Department and NHM (National Health Mission) accompanied her during the visit. AIIMS-Guwahati Director Dr Prof. Ramji Singh and other top officials of the medical institution were also present.

At the review meeting at the site at Changsari, the HITES informed the Union Minister that 95 per cent of works of AIIMS-Guwahati were over. The Union Minister asked the construction company to complete the remaining works of the medical institution by April 15, 2022. She said that the second batch of AIIMS-Guwahati would start classes from March-end.

Classes of the first batch of AIIMS-Guwahati are going on at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH).

The Union Minister visited the building infrastructure of the medical institution, the nursing college, laboratories, hostels etc., on the premises. She asked the AIIMS-Guwahati Director to make arrangements for medical equipment and laboratories.

Talking to the media later, the Union Minister said, "Under the aegis of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 22 new AIIMS are under construction in the country. Six of the AIIMS are operational, and the one in Guwahati will also be operational soon."

The Union Minister also reviewed the Covid-19 situation and the vaccination drive in the state.
