GUWAHATI: The Guwahati chapter of the 'Axom Basaon Ahok Yatra' (Come Let's Save Assam) campaign of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) started from the base of the memorial statue of Assamese General, Bir Lachit Borphukan and his team of soldiers on the banks of the Brahmaputra here on Saturday. After paying homage at the statue of legendary Bir Lachit Borphukan, the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha and also chairman of the party's 'Manifesto Committee', MP Gaurav Gogoi commenced his bus yatra.

Addressing the gathering, Gogoi said, ""This is not a Congress Yatra, but a Yatra of Assam, a dream of Assam and hope for the people of Assam."

He added, "The masses are fed up with the last five years regime of the BJP-led coalition government in Assam. They gave many promises; but the State failed to develop. Their much-touted slogan 'Zero-tolerance against corruption' has come a cropper.

"Hence, the time has come for all of us to come together against this misrule. In 2021, our government will be formed."

The bus yatra proceeded towards Jagiroad in Morigaon district.

Among the party leaders present on the occasion were AICC (All India Congress Committee) secretary for Assam Aniruddha Singh, former MLA Akon Bora, party's publicity committee chairman Rakibul Hussain, Chhaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed and MLA as well as Mahila Congress president Nandita Das.
