GUWAHATI: Speaking on the lopsided demographic pattern in the constituencies of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Neither the Assam Accord nor the NRC gave us anything as expected. The only ray of hope left for us is constituency delimitation. It is one of the exercises that can safeguard our future for the next two decades. The question of political parties doesn't arise here."

Speaking at 'Natun Dinor Alap', the Chief Minister said, "The Changed demographic pattern in the state has its impact on the Assembly constituencies. Delimitation of constituencies will give us a respite, whatever small it might be. The entire process will be with the population data of the 2021 Census. I have a view of my own. The Central Government keeps asking us to control population growth. Some communities follow this appeal, but some don't. Why should the people who abide by the population control norms suffer for those who defy all such norms? The population is the basis for the delimitation of constituencies. I feel constituency delimitation should also include other criteria apart from the population. The nation and the parliament should debate on this crucial issue."

The Chief Minister, however, denied the rollback of the four districts to sub-divisions had links with the delimitation of constituencies in the state.
