GUWAHATI: The Court of Special Judges today framed charges against 67 people in the cash-for-job scam in the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission). The 67 people will now face trial in the Dibrugarh Police case (936/2016).
Fifty-seven of the 67 accused were CCE candidates, and the remaining ten were officials in the APSC. While three of the total 74 accused – Avishikha Baruah, Sanjan Phukan and Debabrata Dey – turned approvers, two others – Sailendra Kumar Sarma Baruah (advocate) and Surajit Choudhury (businessman) – got discharged. Yet two others – Rajib Paul and Sudip Das – have been absconding.
Among the arrested people, 39 are from 2013, and 21 are from 2014 CCE (Combined Competitive Examination) batches respectively.
The Special Court framed charges under Section 120(B)/420/468/471/201 IPC R/W Section 7/13(2) of PC Act against former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul and former APSC members Samedur Rahman and Basanta Kumar Doley.
The court framed charges under Sections 120(B)/420/468/471/201 IPC R/W Section 7/12/8 of PC Act against Naba Kanta Patir, Md Mabud Ali Choudhury, Dr Mrigen Saikia and Mofidul Islam.
The Court also framed charges under sections 120(B)/420/468/471/201 IPC R/W Sections 7/12/8/13 (2) of PC Act against Pabitra Koiborta, Abbas Ali Ahmed and Syed Musharaff Hussain.
The other accused will face trial under section 120(B)/468/471/201 IPC R/W Section 7/12/8 of PC Act.
