GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has asked Deputy Commissioners to hold discussions with Iddgah committees and community leaders to prevent mass gatherings during the ensuing Eid-Ul-Azha.

Eid-Ul-Azha popularly known Bakri Eid will be observed across the State on August 1.

During the State-Level Empowered Committee meeting on COVID-19 held on July 22, it has decided to allow inter-district movement on July 30 and 31 to facilitate Muslims to go to their homes to observe Eid.

The meeting also decided that not more than three persons will be allowed in the places of worship observing COVID protocols.

Meanwhile, noted lawyer and social activist Nekibur Zaman said since the Eid-Ul-Azha will be observed on Saturday (August 1), the State Government must also clarify its order on weekend lockdown.
