GUWAHATI: In sync with the surmise that COVID-19 will be in its peak till mid-September after which the virus will start relenting, the State Health department has been working with the target of increasing the number of COVID-19 tests to 25,000 per day from the current 18,000 per day.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "By August 1, on an average 2,000 COVID-19 cases will be reported daily in the State. The beginning of the unlock 1.0 in the metropolitan city is set to raise the number of corona positive cases. We're readying 10,000 beds in the city. We're also laying emphasis for improved treatment facilities in various areas in the State."
The Health Minister inaugurated the 15th laboratory of virology in the Guwahati Cancer Hospital on Wedneday. "Within a week we're going to open three more such laboratories – one each at the Army Hospital at Basistha, Sonapur Hospital and the Ayurvedic Hospital in the city," the Minister said.
A good sign is that the number of plasma donors is rising in the State. It will help future treatment of serious COVID-19 patients.
At present the percentage of tested COVID-19 positive cases in the State is 3.88. As many as 35 of the 64 COVID-19 toll in the State are 60 plus and 16 are 50 plus. COVID toll in Guwahati alone if 34.
