GUWAHATI: Around 65 lakh people have been inoculated one or both the COVID-19 vaccine doses in the State, and the government has the target of vaccinating 1.35 crore, other people. The government hopes to achieve this target in 45 days if the vaccination drive goes on at the current pace.
However, the vaccination drive couldn't achieve its target of three lakh on Thursday when 1.47 lakh people were vaccinated till 8 pm.
On the other hand, the COVID positivity rate is still high in ten districts, including Morigaon, Jorhat, Golaghat, Biswanath Chariali, Lakhimpur etc. The COVID positivity rate in these ten districts is 2-4 per cent against the overall positivity rate of 2.2 per cent in the State on Thursday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is going to hold a virtual meeting with the deputy commissioners of these ten districts, and the government will take decisions on the districts after that meeting.
According to Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, vaccines are being supplied by the Government of India without any interruption. "We hope to achieve our target in the coming 45 days. We'll be able to inoculate at least one dose to each eligible people of the State. Those who have their second dose dues needn't worry as vaccines are available for them. We're keeping a close watch with doctors on the occurrence of the delta variant of the virus," Mahanta said.
