GUWAHATI: The stage is all set for the vaccination of teens in the age group 15-18 years from Monday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta and some Cabinet ministers will monitor the vaccination drive in various schools.

This drive will cover 20.37 lakh teens. Teens will take only Covaxin. A teen needs to take the second dose between 28 and 42 days after taking the first dose. Health Minister Keshab Mahanta reviewed the preparations for the vaccination drive. The deputy commissioners will monitor the vaccination drive in schools in their respective districts.

Talking to the media, the Health Minister said, "We are ready to vaccinate teens of the age group 15-18 from Monday. The state has 14 lakh covaxin in stock, and more Covaxin will arrive within a day or two. The teens taking the first dose from January 3-9 will get the second in February.

"Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will launch the vaccination drive in a school at Duliajan in the Dibrugarh district tomorrow."

The Health Department and NHM have clarified that the teens born on or before December 31, 2007, are eligible for taking Covaxine.

Meanwhile, talking to the media today, the Chief Minister said, "Even now 65 lakh 18+ people in the state have not yet taken the second dose. We appeal to them to take the second dose by January.
