GUWAHATI: A division bench of the Gauhati High Court refused to give more time to the State Education Department to submit its report sought by the High Court in connection with various petitions challenging the constitutional validity of some provisions of the Assam Education (Provincialization of Services of Teachers and Reorganization of Educational Institutions) Act, 2017.

However, as the last chance to the department, the bench comprising Chief Justice RM Chhaya and Justice Soumitra Saikia adjourned the matter to November 9, 2022, for its next hearing.

In its earlier order issued on September 26, 2022, the bench directed the Secretary to the Government of Assam, Elementary Education, to examine the case of each of the petitioners in the writ petitions to ascertain whether recognition and provincialization, if rightly granted or not. The Court also directed the Secretary to Elementary Education to verify the claim of each of the petitioners, and submit a report to the court by October 31, 2022.
