CRUELTY BY HUSBAND; 13,320 cases of crimes against women registered in 2019

GUWAHATI: The cases of crimes against women have been on the rise what with the State recording 13,320 cases of 'Cruelty by Husband' across the State in 2019.

A report from the Police department said that while the State recorded 2,206 such cases in 2005, the number has been surging rapidly every year. While 10,580 cases were registered in 2017, as many as 11,999 were registered in 2018. From 2005 to 2019, a whopping 1,07,400 cases were registered in the aforementioned crime.

Among other crimes against women in 2019, while 1,952 rape cases were registered, 49 were those of trafficking, 165 of dowry deaths, 6,326 of kidnapping and 4,359 cases were reported under the head of 'Molestation'.
