TINSUKIA: A person proclaimed being murdered, culprits booked, rituals performed but surfaced alive. The story sounds bizarre but true, and the incident happened under Tinsukia Sadar Police Station.

According to information, one Tarun Bhumij of Sukan Pukhuri on the outskirts of Tinsukia had gone missing on May 4. The family members lodged a missing diary letter to Tinsukia Sadar Police Station on May 5. On May 8, the police recovered a body at Sukanpukhuri and the family members identified the body to be of Tarun Bhumij. His last rites were performed according to rituals. Meanwhile, the police registered a case (627/21) under Section 302 of IPC and booked eight persons on prima facie evidence, and forwarded them to the judicial custody. On May 13, Tarun Bhumij surfaced at his residence that created sensation in the locality. On Saturday Tarun Bhumij appeared personally before the Magistrate who granted release of all the eight accused on bail. Now a question arises how it could be a mistaken identity, and who was the person whose body was recovered and cremated?
