GUWAHATI: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) at Guwahati has issued a three-day alert, starting January 9, for dense to very dense fog for several districts in the state.

According to the RMC, Indian Meteorological Department, a fog alert on January 9 has been issued for Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup (M), Kamrup, Nalbari, Barpeta, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi districts.

For January 10, an alert has been issued in the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Majuli, Jorhat, Nagaon, Hojai, Morigaon, Darrang, Udalguri, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi.

The fog alert for January 11, issued by RMC, is effective for the districts of Nalbari, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, and Goalpara.

In another advisory issued by the RMC, it was stated that all NE states, except Arunachal Pradesh, are likely to have dense to very dense fog in isolated places in the region from January 9 to 11.

The frequency of road accidents in the past several days has witnessed a sharp increase, and the presence of fog is a likely contributor. Hence, drivers have been advised to be careful while crossing places with reduced visibility due to fog.
