Dibrugarh Tea Planter, Advocate, 3 Others Held For Land-Sale Deed Fraud

DIBRUGARH: A tea planter, an advocate and three others were arrested on charges of registering a land sale deed with a fake ‘No Objection Certificate (NOC)’ in the land registration office here on Saturday.

The police — acting on a senior Sub Registrar’s FIR which stated that a land deed was registered in the registrar’s office with a false NOC — made an inquiry and found that the NOC (no. 514) mentioned in the FIR was actually issued by the Revenue branch of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in 2017 against another sale deed. Based on it, the police arrested tea planter Mrigendra Jalan — the seller of the land; and Saswata Kundu — an advocate of Dibrugarh Bar; besides Sarada Devi Kejriwal, Nemson Kejrewal, and Anil Agarwal — all buyers of the land. The police, during investigation, also seized some incriminating documents and the fake NOC. Based on the FIR lodged by the senior Sub-Registrar, the police also registered a case and produced all the arrested persons in the court on Saturday.

According to sources, the land which the trio had bought from Jalan measures two bighas with five quarters of tea executives of Jalan Tea Estates on it. It is located opposite to the GM Nursing Home. It was bought reportedly with an intention to construct a nursing home. However, due to an alert Sub Registrar, the fraud came to light and all the parties involved in the fraud were caught in the police dragnet.
