Directorate of Revenue Intelligence Seized Gold Bars Worth Rs 20.39 Crores

GUWAHATI: In a major haul the officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 266 pieces of gold bars of foreign origin worth Rs 20.39 crore approximately.

A press communiqué issued by the Guwahati Zonal Unit of DRI on Thursday stated that seizure was made after a concerted operation spanning Assam, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. The operation carried out on November 12 & 13, was based on specific information. The cumulative weight of Gold Bars has been estimated to be 51.672 kg. The said gold bars were recovered following interceptions in two different vehicles at Manja and Siliguri and also in simultaneous operation at Mughalsarai railway station from two passengers, who were traveling to Delhi by North East Express.

The communiqué said this is one of the major hauls in sheer terms of quantity and pan India ramification in recent times. On September 21 this year, the DRI officers in another operation had also seized 70 pieces if similar gold bars worth Rs 4.5 crore from two passenger buses coming from Imphal.
