Directorate of Secondary Education: Move for benefits to additional contractual teachers underway

GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Secondary Education has asked the inspectors of schools in all districts to furnish annual reports of each additional teacher engaged on a contractual basis and open a service book against each of such teachers by July 10, 2023.

This, according to the Directorate, is a must to provide benefits like regular pay scales, earned leave, childcare leave, annual increments, revision of pay as per the pay commission, etc., to the additional teachers the same as the regular teachers. The notification has also mentioned that it allows the additional teachers to join the CPF (Contributory Provident Fund) the same as the regular teachers.

The State Government issued this notification in pursuance of a Cabinet decision on May 26, 2020, to provide equivalent benefits of the regular pay scale and corresponding service benefits to 5,243 additional teachers engaged on a contractual basis in different Higher Secondary Schools and High Schools/High Madrassas.

The additional teachers were also allowed continuation of service until they attain the age of 60, subject to annual appraisal, discipline, and good conduct. These teachers, however, will not get any kind of pension. They, however, are entitled to avail of a bank loan at par with other State Government employees and medical reimbursement of Rs. 5 lakh annually.
